[LA Bikes] Bad striping on Central

Amy and I saw this on the way to dinner tonight. It ruined our night
by putting us both in a foul mood.

There are a few problems with this:

1. It's directing road traffic onto the sidewalk. Anyone in this lane
wishing to stay in the road must now change lanes *to go straight*.

2. It sends a pretty strong message that cyclists are to ride on the
sidewalk as they come downtown, which is maybe not so great with all the
driveways and pedestrian traffic.

3. It ambiguously suggests that cyclists leaving downtown are expected
to be in the roadway.

There are more problems, I'm sure. I highly doubt this is how the
MUTCD suggests bike lanes be terminated.

I'm curious as to who decided this should happen, and what motivated
them to do so. It doesn't feel like the sort of thing Nancy would do,
nor the sort of thing that Khal, as the chair of the T-Board, would let
slide. Was it maybe just an errant paint crew?

Whatever the reason, we (LA Bikes) need to push to get this crazy
dashed curve strip taken off ASAP. Khal, do you think this merits a
call to Nancy on the weekend?

I put this in my blog at http://woozle.org/~neale/blog/2008-10-24.Bad_paint/
